Wednesday 18th Feb - ICTPD Inspiration & the NCS Intranet
  • A look at some inspiring and motivating ICTPD videos that illustrate why elearning & ICT are important and useful skills for the 21Century learner. Also a demo on how to access, navigate and use the NCS Intranet.

Wednesday 25th Feb - No techie brekie

Wednesday 4th March - Tips for Internet Searching & Research
  • Quick tips and a useful resource to make searching or "googling" and finding the resource you want easier plus a useful 3 step approach to helping your students 'digest' the information they gather from their Internet searches & research.

Wednesday 11th March - Digital Photography Ideas, Tips and Tricks
  • Ideas for using the digital camera with students in your classroom and techniques to improve the quality of photos that they produce.

Wednesday 18th March - Using You Tube in the Classroom
  • Using You Tube videos to support classroom learning programmes, how to embed videos in your blog and dowload videos to your computer for easy and smooth playback in class.

Wednesday 25 March - Digital/Media Literacies
A look at the importance of digital/media literacies and resources to support the use/teaching of these in your classroom.

Wednesday 6th May - Backing up Data
  • What, how and why you should be backing up your computer file data

Wednesday 13th May - Tutpup
  • A look at the incredible and free site www.tutpup.com
  • Great basic facts maths practice in a mathletics-type live maths competition online environment

Wednesday 20th May - Displaying word documents and PDFs on your blog for viewing/download
  • With Scribd’s ipaper document reader, anyone can easily upload and immediately share their original works on Scribd.com or any other website. iPaper transforms "print" files like PDF, Word or PowerPoint into web document — with all the fonts, layout and artwork that makes your document unique.
  • Bring along your computer with a suitable document to experiment with and upload to your blog/wiki

Wednesday 27th May - Ideas for using your Data Projector
  • Is your data projector gathering dust? Are you using it in the most effective way possible?
  • Come along and gain ideas for using it every day in your general classroom programme. Let's make the most of this expensive tool we all have access to!

Wednesday 3rd June - Wikispace Wikis
  • We'll explain what a wiki can offer that a blog can't - why you might like one
  • Basic skills in using wikispace wikis covered - creating a new page, inserting pictures/media etc
  • Your questions and queries answered - make sure you have these ready
  • Ensure you bring along your computer and wikispaces username and password for your wikispace wiki. If you don't have a wiki and would like one, Tania/Tim can assist you in setting one up - or check here for instructions on how to do so before the techie brekie: http://nelsoncentral. wikispaces.com/creating+wikis
  • This session is mainly for people who have made a start and need the skills to go further.

Wednesday 10th June - Investigating the treasures inside Digistore
  • Digistore is the New Zealand gateway to a huge collection of quality digital content (learning objects and digital resources)
  • Digital resources: A digital resource consists of a single item such as a section of video footage, an image (drawing, cartoon or photograph), or an audio file (song or broadcast). Each digital resource includes a brief description, a statement about its educational value, and acknowledgement of its source. Digital resources can be used in an infinite number of ways. Learners are encouraged to select and combine the most relevant digital resources to meet their needs.
  • Learning objects: In contrast, learning objects are interactive, multimedia curriculum content that includes a learning purpose.Learning objects are particularly useful when a concept is hard to represent, difficult or dangerous to replicate, or when repetition is required.
  • We'll investigate how you access and locate these free, easily accessible digital resources and learning objects for use in classroom learning programmes.

Wednesday 5th August - Cybersafety & our Students
  • A closer look at cybersafety, the reality and the dangers, as well as the conversations and teaching we need to be having/doing with our students to sensibly educate them about it.

Wednesday 12th August - Audio on your blog
  • This session will look at some quick and easy tools your students can use to independently (yes, even juniors) record a very simple podcast (online audio/voice file) that can be simply embedded onto your blog or wiki.Bring your computer along to have a go too!

Wednesday 19th August - Keeping the nasties at bay
  • A look at how keep your computer and our school network safe from nasties like computer viruses. Ways of preventing, scanning and cleaning viruses to keep your precious work and computer from becoming a victm. We'll also cover considerations you'll need to make to manage situations when other people want to connect their computer to our network.

Wednesday 26th August - A closer look at digital storytelling
  • Many of our students are involved in digital storytelling and making movies as part of their Inquiry topics. This workshop will take a closer look at the digital storytelling process students should be involved in before they use any technology to put together their movie at a computer. A list of over 50 different ways/tools for digital storytelling will also be shared.

Wednesday 2nd September - Photo Booth Uses & Tricks
  • This workshop will introduce photo booth which is on our mac pod computers and look at its many exciting and varied uses. The ability to record videos through the isight camera, using the 'green screening' option to record videos and adding your own backgrounds to photo booth will be demonstrated. Come along and see what can be accomplished!

Wednesday 9th September - Blogging re-examined
  • This workshop will involve examining your class blog, reflecting upon and analysing it in terms of purpose and community. Commenting, additional ideas, tips and where to next will also be discussed. Do you know what makes an effective class blog? Gain some ideas to make improvements and keep the standard high.
  • Bring along your computer to ensure you can make use of this valuable time.

Wednesday 16th September - Spelling Goodies online
  • A look at several online resources to assist students with spelling both at home and at school; including one that could revolutionise and enhance your at home spelling programme if many of your students have Internet access.
  • Bring along your computer and explore some of the fantastic, free resources out there to support your teaching and your students' learning in this area.

Term 4:



Wednesday 21 October - Put your Students in the Picture: Green screening & storytelling
  • See an example from Room 9 (Feet First Picture Book) of green screening of students to put them into the picture book. Have a hands on go at how to do this on the mac computers. A fun session that will give you the skills, the experience and the ideas for possible class end of year projects and other classwork. No need to bring your computer, the macs will be set out for your use.

Wednesday 28 October - Accessing and Using MUSAC for Assessment Data
  • All your questions about MUSAC answered - how to access and where to put your assessment data (ie running records etc). Bring your laptop and MUSAC password to explore and find out exactly where this information needs to go for school wide assessment.

Wednesday 4 November - How to Access & Use MUSAC to write your school reports
  • View the final school report format for the year and learn how to complete your reports using MUSAC. Tips and tricks using MUSAC features to make your report writing easier will also be shared. Bring your laptop and MUSAC password to make the most of this time.

Wednesday 11 November - How to get the most out of your eLearning Sessions
  • A look at some successful organisational and planning strategies you can implement in your eLearning sessions to make them more purposeful and productive. Here what other teachers are doing and what tips and tricks you can add to your teaching toolkit.

Wednesday 18 November - No Techie Brekie due to Kids' ICT Expo

Wednesday 25 November - Xtranormal Animated Movie Making
  • As seen at the Kids' Expo, let Rachel and the Room 9 xtranormal team show you how to make the easiest animated movies ever! If you can type, you can make a movie using xtranormal! Ideas for future use and integration in the classroom will also be shared and discussed.
  • Come along and be taught by some enthusiastic and confident year 2 students!

Wednesday 2nd December - Christmas Links and Fun!
  • This session will look at interesting and entertaining holiday season websites and activity/games on the Internet that you could use with your class to provide jovial holiday fun and spirit over the last weeks of term!
